Tax credit
Tax-Free Childcare is a government scheme that helps working parents with the cost of childcare. For every £8 you pay into a special online childcare account, the government adds £2 — up to £2,000 per child per year (or £4,000 for children with disabilities).
It’s available for children up to age 11 (or 17 if disabled), and you can use it to pay registered childcare providers like nurseries, childminders, or after-school clubs. To qualify, both parents (or one in a single-parent household) must be working and earning at least the equivalent of 16 hours a week at minimum wage, and neither can earn more than £100,000 annually. You cannot use it at the same time as the Workplace Nursery Scheme or Childcare Vouchers.
